Nonantum's culture is built upon three core values: integrity, humility, and teamwork. These values are the foundation for our relationships with our limited partners, management teams, and investment staff, and have enabled us to foster principled partnerships that drive long-term success

With decades of investment and operating experience and a culture of partnership and integrity, Nonantum has become a partner of choice for families, founders, and management teams

Our core values drive us to invest only where we can partner with management to execute on a shared vision, and to invest only where we can underwrite growth potential that creates significant value for all parties involved.

  • Family‐ and founder‐led businesses where existing shareholders are seeking partial liquidity and looking to partner with investors who can help maximize the value of their remaining ownership stake
  • Corporate carve‐outs where management sees untapped opportunities resulting from independence
  • Complex situations where we can partner with management to transform businesses in transition (e.g management succession, industry turmoil, new growth avenues, low cost manufacturing)

  • Lower middle market companies with untapped potential where we can leverage our investment, operational, and board experience and resources to build enduring value
  • Opportunities to transform businesses (carve-out to stand-alone, regional to national, flat to growing)
  • Control buyouts where sellers and management are interested in investing alongside us to grow the business

Our Name

The word “Nonantum” comes from the Native American word for “Blessing”. For our team, this name is symbolic of:

  • Our spin-out from Charlesbank – Driving from Newton to Cambridge, Charlesbank Road turns into Nonantum Road along the Charles River
  • Returning to our roots – Nonantum, MA is also the name of the village where our managing partner was raised. Just as his roots trace back to Nonantum, we view this as an opportunity to return to our roots as investors, focusing on the lower middle market, and on family / founder businesses and corporate carve-outs for which we have a passion
